About PewTranslate
PewTranslate is live sermon translation for churches. The church runs one laptop with a microphone; people in the room scan a QR code, choose one of 106 languages and follow the sermon sentence by sentence as text and spoken voice on their own phone, in the browser. No app to install and no headsets. One person can also use it alone on their own phone. It is machine translation, so it can make mistakes with names, Bible references and music; for vows a human interpreter is the better choice. Pricing is US$5 per hour of translated speech per language, unlimited listeners, no subscription. Accounts are not open yet: a simulated demo runs without sign-up at pewtranslate.com and churches can request early access. Sermon audio is not stored.
- Who it's for
- Churches whose visitors do not speak the language of the sermon, and individuals who want a sermon in their own language
- The problem
- People in church who do not speak the preacher's language sit through the sermon understanding little. A volunteer interpreter is not there every Sunday, and headset systems cost money and need someone to hand them out.
- How PewTranslate solves it
- One laptop with a microphone streams the sermon; listeners scan a QR code, pick a language and read and hear each sentence in their own language on their own phone, in the browser. No app and no headsets.
- What makes it different
- Built for church services: one QR code printed once, 106 listener languages, unlimited listeners, billed per hour of translated speech per language only while someone listens. Honest limits: it is machine translation; for vows a human interpreter is better.
